The question of
coarse vs.
course isn't one that has been on my long-running "to address in a tip" list. But a couple weeks ago, I was horrified to discover I'd let one of these simple errors slip by uncorrected. The pair instantly moved to the list...near the top.
coarse (adj) not smooth, or consisting of large particles; common or vulgarThe use of whole barley flour made the bread dough coarse and heavy.
course (n) a plan or path; forward movement or progress; an academic programPeople will argue, but you must stay the course.
