Arrow Showing Your True Colors!
I recently heard a comment/concern that I hear from newer VA's all the time. How do you let your personality come through your website content?

I personally love this topic because that was one of the most important factors to me when I created my site content. I thought I would post a few tips here for anyone else having this issue!

1. Post a picture! Some people are not okay with this one, and that's totally fine. However, new clients often tell me that my picture is the reason they sent me an email. It's a casual photo, but I'm smiling and I'm happy. This tells them that I have nothing to hide.

2. Use your own words. By that, I mean make your content conversational. Use short paragraphs with quick, concise information. Throw in a sentence or two that is uniquely you. For example, I totally made up my definition of a VA. (That's why when someone stole it, I knew it wasn't a coincidence!) But I think that describes who I am. Tell your customers why they should choose you over every other VA out there...and tell them within the first few paragraphs.

3. Tell them exactly what you can do for them. That sounds obvious, but so many VA sites sound exactly alike. Tell them how your services are going to make their business/lives better, and make sure your reasons are interesting. For example, I play on the human element and the fact that my clients will have more time for their business. I also tell them why they will have those things when they work with me.

4. Tell them something about who you really are. You don't have to reveal personal info. Just tell them your favorite song, your hobbies, or some interesting tidbit about your life. You never know what client may like the same things and send you an email because of that!

People want to know you're human, and that's the bottom line. Don't make a cookie-cutter website. Use a conversational tone, just as if you were explaining what you do to a friend.

You can view my website in my signature line for some examples. Also, look at other websites that put personality into their copy. Check out www.methodhome.com, www.greenchristmasguide.com/intro, and www.threadless.com.

I hope this helps!

Brianna, I have no idea how I missed this post you wrote!
I love this and agree with all of your points so completely.

Great examples as well (I LOVE threadless!)

Thanks so much for this great reminder of the importance of adding your own personality to your site - it makes ALL the difference!

Brianna: Thanks for this inspiring post. This is something I'm struggling with too, as I don't want a website that reads like some generic robot; however, I don't want to come across as unprofessional either, and I think we end up equating professional with boring :-)

And I see you're no longer taking clients, so it must be working for you :-)
