Default Showing Physical Locations
I was wondering what you think about showing your physical location on your website? Not your actual address, but a city, state/province/county/etc, and/or country. Is it necessary? Do clients usually want to know where you are?

Just curious.

My location is posted on my contact page if they're interested. I don't feel its necessary to go beyond that.

I just show a telephone number and an email address. Once a prospect becomes a client, I will let them have my mailing and physical address. I don't feel it is necessary to advertise it otherwise but to each his own.

I put my city and province on my site. I don't have a post box to use so I don't put my physical address on my site. I'm certainly not going to put my home address on my site. I don't need anyone showing up when I'm having a bad hair day and I'm in my pajamas.

My details, including address, are on my contacts page. I figure they can call on me anytime they like, but if it is really early (or really late) and I am in my jim-jams then tough lol!!!

I include my PO Box on my contact page. This gives city and state. I also note in my About page that I'm in the larger Portland Metro Area to give people a sense of where I am.

I think it's very important to tell people where you live. I don't think it necessary to tell them the exact home/office location but a general idea, at least, yes. One important reason is time zone issues. I have clients in many different time zones and when I was working out of my home I, honestly, didn't really like getting calls at 6AM my time. With your location on there that can help a little. Besides that I think putting your location helps people to see you as a "real" business. I tend to trust a new companies website more when they tell me where they're located. There are so many non-legitimate VA websites out there it makes me feel like the website is for a real, legitimate business where there is an address, even if it's a PO Box.

I think it promotes potential client confidence to at least list location (country, state, province, whatever) Someone may want to use this info to verify my business with the BBB or my state corp. commission. Some web sites have so little contact info I would be less inclined to deal with them. I have more confidence in a business's reliability if I see an address listed, even it is is a PO Box. I may be old school, but just an email adress makes me less comfortable about being able to contact someone if things do not go so well.

Very good points there. I hadn't thought about the time zone issue! Or the BBB issue.

I agree that knowing where a business is physically located kind of "grounds" it, gives it roots - makes it feel like you're on safer footing. Not necessarily true of course, but it does feel like it.

Anyway, thanks to all for your input. As far as PJs and bad hair days go though, I think I'll keep my actual address private. This would be the client at my door -->

Probably not good for business...

Deb

p.s. Sharen - you sound like a blast to work with.
