Default Rates on Website
I have been setting up my website and researching other sites to see what ideas I like and don't like in other VA's website. Currently I am torn between two roads and I am hoping you might be able to provide some insight (both yeh and nah).

Question: What are your thoughts on posting your rates on your website for people to review before contacting you?

I have been trying to find a posting on this, however have not come across anything as of yet. Since this group has been so helpful in the past I would love to hear everyone's thoughts.

Thanks for all your help!

try the search term 'posting rates' in the search box to find 3 threads that discuss this issue (include the quotes in the search box).

I DO post my rates as I use the VAF calculator on my website to allow potential clients to view the projected savings when hiring me over an employee.

I am leaning towards not posting rates, as each project has different facets and I would want to charge differently, particularly with projects that involve editing (ie how many edits are included in the base fee and when does an hourly fee begin to charge). I may be doing this a tad differently, though....

And that DOES make sense when you work more on a 'project' basis than an 'hourly' basis. My rates are set so posting them works for me, but not for everyone.

Thank you both for your feedback. I agree with both of them, which is why I guess I have been having trouble deciding. I will search some more.

I do have my rates on my website. I only work on retainer (and by hour if there are overages) and find that this helps weed out the "cheapskates" that are looking for slave labor rather than value-based service.

Those that do contact me, go into our consultation process already knowing what it will cost and makes the "how much does it cost" conversation quick and painless - just a confirmation of what they already know.

Hope that helps!

I also post my retainer rates on my site and agree with Carol in that it helps clients to decide whether or not I fit in their budget or not. However, I've also found that a large majority of the people who've contacted me as potential clients don't seem to have even looked at my rates/terms pages. Usually they ask me directly what my rates are or how I charge. Explaining this via email or on the phone has given me even more confidence in being able to discuss my rates and the financial aspects overall.

Personally, I have not really understand VA websites that have a "Rates" page on their website and then they do not list their rates. If you're not going to list your rates, then don't have a page for it....either that or calling something other than a rate page such as Terms or Getting Started or something to that effect. (that's just my little rant. )

Right now I don't post my rates. I agree with J & L Con****ing as each project may be different. Good Luck!
