Cut out all these exclamation points. An exclamation point is like laughing at your own joke.

Yeah but sometimes I have said something so funny it makes even me laugh!

I agree about the punctuation and I am as guilty as the next person with their.... or their !!!! One thing I really hate though is when someone uses an apostrophe in the wrong place or doesn't use one at all.

I'm still trying to understand its and it's. When I do it one way my computer gives me the red squiggly so I change it and it STILL gives me the red squiggly sometimes. I try to avoid using "its" just so I don't use it wrong.

I am bumping this thread up. Call me cranky, but the amount of threads showing up with multiple question or exclamation marks is .

  • "Its" is possessive as in, "The dog broke its tail."
  • "It's" means "it is" as in, "it's a shame that I can't come up with better examples."

Play the substitution game: If you say "it is" instead of "it's" and it makes sense, then using "it's" is the right thing to do. If not, then use "its." For example, "The dog broke it is tail," does not make sense so it becomes more obvious that you would use "its."

Hope this helps
