Question How Do you Present Yourself?
I am in the process of creating my website and I'm struggling with some wording as I create my web presence. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to present yourself, do you prefer to refer to yourself in singular or plural? When referring to my business and myself I like the way it sounds when I say "We or Our" because it sounds like there is a team, but I am not really sure if that is misleading. This may have been discussed before but I would really appreciate some input

I struggled with this as well. I chose to use the plural. It made my organization seem bigger than just me. Where it becomes hard is when I reply to a request for proposal and have to share MY capabilities. I have to remember to remain consistent.

Tamika,

Thanks so much for your advice I thought that I was the only one. You brought up a good point and I'll keep in mind that I will need to remain consistent if I choose to go this route.

Same here, but read somewhere that you should write "we" and "us". There was a reason for this, but can't remember what it was.

I use we because I'm a multi-VA and do have a team. I'd choose the pronoun based on what feels comfortable for you and to suit what plans you have for your business.

I use "we" and "us" on my website and in promotional materials except on my About page, then I say "About the Owner" and it is written in the third person. I'm not trying to make myself sound bigger than I am, I just think it feels more business-like.

I agree with Kylie though, you should go with what you feel comfortable with as that is who you are and who you will want your clients to see and know.

Hi

I have always used "we" instead of I too. I always felt it was a truthful statement too as I always was consulting with others on how to do it the best I could and would often get assistance on projects, even if it was someone to just look over my work and give a quick review. I always felt it instilled more confidence.

I totally agree too, go with what you feel most comfortable.

Thanks!

I have gone back and forth on this. My website and marketing materials have we/us and each time I think about changing it to just me someone comments on how professional my website is and I take that as a sign to leave things as they are. When speaking with clients or potential clients I always represent my business as just me and it has never presented a conflict.

In my experience, to successfully market yourself you need to feel comfortable with your marketing tools and they need to honestly represent you.

All the best
Donna

When I refer to my business I say "we/us". I don't currently plan to have a multi-va business but I'm not closing the door on it. I do contract my mom occasionally to help out when needed.

Thanks so much everyone . I am so glad this forum is available, because it is so helpful to get the advice of my peers. I appreciate everyone's advice and I find comfort in the fact that everyone has been so willing to give me their input. After giving it a lot of thought I do feel comfortable with using "We" and "Us" because I plan to enlist the help of other professionals.

My question is how do you present yourself when meeting people face to face? When i hear myself answer 'what do you do', it sounds like a long list of mumbo jumbo. Is there an easy way to summarize what we do and also create that interest that they will want to know even more?

I felt the same way. However, I asked a couple of friends to review my new site and they both commented how I should change the we/us to I/me as it feels it misrepresents my business.

I use "my" "I" because I feel funny saying "we" when it's really only "me"
