Hi Kate,

It is always good to have a spell checker, i use ieSpell and I find it good (when I remember to use it).

But I like having a thesaurus included as sometimes I get stuck for words.

Thanks for sharing, I will keep this handy in my favourites.

In addition to spelling resources, I find this proofreading reminder very helpful:

http://www.indiana.edu/~wts/pamphlet..._grammar.shtml

It's all very basic, of course, but I like to read through it to refresh my memory. All too often it is easy to skip over homonyms because they're spelled correctly or overlook a shifted tense. I know that I shift tense all the time.

These are also useful ...

www.thesaurus.com

or

www.dictionary.com

they are actually the same website with separate tabs for Thesaurus, Dictonary, etc. - really helpful

Blimey how old fashioned am I lol? I love the feel of paper and so I have a physical thesaurus and dictionary always to hand.

When I was taking exams last year I was advised by the tutor not to rely on spell checkers as they can often miss a misspelt word and definitely not to rely on grammar checkers for checking for grammatical errors!

There is a lot to be said for having e-help but there is an awful lot more to be said for relying on good old fashioned paper products too!

I totally agree Sharen! I always have a stash of reference books nearby including The Elements of Style, Barron's Painless Grammar, The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation, MLA Handbook, The Synonym Finder and three different dictionaries. Whew!

Of course, I was an English major in college so some of those are leftovers. I use them all the time, though.

I am always using online resources, too, though. It depends on where I happen to be located because I have a mobile office.

I use m-w.com for definitions and to confirm proper spelling.
