Default What is an email URL and How do I make one
Oh my gosh. I feel really dumb. I've spent all this time working on getting my blog/web site up and running only to have been "STUMPED" by a tiny thing as a URL. Where oh WHERE do I get the email url from my website? This is the link that when clicked on would open up the viewer's email provider as if they were going to send an email to me directly. Sorry for being so "needy" on this topic, but feel totally lost, and frantic!!! Thanks for the help!!!

Tina,

You need to know the incoming and the outgoing servers (SMTP and POP3) which is information that typically comes from your provider. You can call them directly, check the welcome email that providers usually send when you sign on or do a search on the provider website for this information. Calling support is easier.

Then, depending upon your email client such as Outlook, you would go in and set up your email in the account information and include the outgoing and the incoming server names.

Typically, providers offer a tutorial on their site 'how to set up email' which is easy to follow. Or you can do a google search depending upon the email client you are using. Here is a tutorial from Microsoft, How to Set Up Internet E-mail in Outlook. But these instructions will vary depending upon what email you use.

I think this is what you're looking for!

Code:
<a href="mailto:someone@yoursite.com">Email Us</a>

Oh, my! I totally missed the mark on your question and I do apologize. Forgive me!

Obviously I thought you were looking to set up your email for your website using your domain. But your question does ask how to find the url from your website where one would click on that.

I am sorry!! (My cat tragically passed away this morning for no reason on my kitchen floor and I've had trouble concentrating on reading and writing today.)

What program are you using Janine? Often you can click on a link image after highlighting the text and then add in the email address, but usually with the mailto: in front of it.

Hello folks,

I thought I'd add a little extra input here for you to consider. You can also add a little extra to your HTML email link if you'd like to track where people are contacting you from such as from what page on your site. You can set the email subject with an extra bit of code:

Code:
<A HREF="mailto:me@somedomain.com?subject=Contacting you from your Services page">Email Me</A>

<A HREF="mailto:me@somedomain.com?subject=Free Consultation"><img src="../path/to/your/image.jpg" /></A>
Unfortunately in this day and age, spammers are sending spiders out onto the net to harvest your email addresses from your webpages. What I do is link instead to a contact form that utilizes image captcha, those funny codes you have to enter with letters and numbers. This goes a long way to defeating the spammers and 'robots' that can't read and submit those image captchas.

I hope that helps!

<a href="mailto:info@yourdomain.c om" target="_blank">info@yourdomai n</a>

I have always been taught to include the target="blank" into the link...

As Cheryl mentioned, Google also has a feature to protect an email address when you post it on your website. The link is below:
