Unfortunately, even if you code a contact form into your site (instead of visible email address) with a captcha image (the thing where you have to type in matching letters or do a math sum) you'll stlll get spam - if you've only gotten one or two these past few months you're really doing OK Just redo the encoding....

It's kind of unavoidable, sadly...

Another suggestion is to use a different email on your site than you do for any of your other business communications - and yet a third to sign up for newsletters, etc. That way your spam will tend to be central to the non-client useable email addresses.

I redid the encoding but it turned my email address completely white, making it difficult to read on my page. So I put the original page back up. Got any ideas about how to make the white email appear in a dark blue color?

Huh?? That's bizarre...
Try this and let me know (substituting the numbers for your own color's hex code.) :

Code:
<font color="#330066">all of your code goes here</font>
For a list of hex codes check here.

Oh..hmmm, well - template sites are finicky sometimes, my best guess is it just doesn't understand the code and chucks it. I know it's not a great direction to have to pursue but you'll have to ask their customer support about it.

Hi Tess,
I am finally at this point in my website development that I can use this email encoder. I am also having the problem where I can't change the font color. Do you have any other suggestions?
Thank you.

Julie

Agnes sent me over to this post after reviewing my website for me and I am soooo glad! I know how those spiders and crawlers work but I didn't know there was a way to get around them. I wish I'd known about this before. Now I just hope I managed to get all of my mailto links changed!

Thanks for providing this!

Hi all, sorry I didn't realize people were still having issues with the link color - here's how you fix it once and for all - add in the style=color code I've entered below, substituting the ###### for the hex color code you want to use.
Please let me know if this helps!

<a style="color:######" href=ALL OF THAT FUNKY GENERATED CODE IS HERE;</a>

This is really cool!

I tried it in IE, Firefox, Netscape & Opera. I only had problems with Opera, but the other 3 browsers worked fine!

It's certainly a lot more simplistic than my efforts @ confounding those nasty spyders & crawlers!

Thanks!

I wanted to revive this thread to say how much I appreciate this Anti-Spam code. I just read a tweet that raved about SpamArrest saving her from 4400 spam emails.

I use a simple spam filter provided by my ISP and I've had Hamid's anti-spam code on my website since September 2007 (almost one full year) and have had less than 10 spam emails. Incredible? I'd say so!

Thanks again Hamid!
