Just curious, how much spam do each of you get daily?
None yet! But, I've only had my website up for about 6 weeks

I've had my email spoofed which wasn't fun! My ssam folder catches about 30-50 spam pieces a day!!! I have since purchased a dedicated email address that corresponds with my domain name and that will always be private!

Spoofed? Yikes! Do you mean someone hijacked your email address?

If you install this encoded email instead of the one you've got up there now you'll drastically reduce the number of spam emails you receive. Give it a shot (again, it takes a bit to see the difference but is worth doing.)

Thank you Tess and Hamid for providing this bit of code. I was worried about having my email on my website being that it would be highly exposed to spam bots. I do have a contact form in the works, in the meantime, I wanted some way to have my email available, but not expose it to spam! Thank you both very much!

I've had this code on my site since the end of September and I have not had ONE bit of spam. Thanks again Hamid and Tess!

Good to hear it!

Bumping this little gem up so our newer members can take advantage of it too - I've noticed lots of naked email addresses lately

Hi Tess,

The encoding isn't working for me. When I enter my e-mail address is says "please enter a valid email address"
What can I do?

Thanks.

Julie

Julie, it really should be fine, but if you can PM me your email address I can check it out to see if there's a bug. Thanks

Julie, it should be just fine now....it was case sensetive which was unintentional. Now it doesn't mind capitals or otherwise Please let me know if all is well when you try it this time?

I take that back. I just got my first and only spam email today. Now, I had my site redesigned last month. Would you mind taking a look to see if the code was inserted properly? Also, is there anything else I should be doing?
Thank you!

Shari, it *should* read the long string of code-muck when moused over but all I read is a regular mailto:, so maybe you'll want to re-do the encoding?

Also - real live human harvesters can and will still come by to grab your visible email address, so spam is definitely not going to be 100% gone with the encoder BUT it *does* prevent the auto-harvesting spambots from cruising by and picking it up, which is what gets you on the worst lists for receiving spam.

Thank you! I'll redo the encoding. And then I'll need to figure out the rest. Hmm. What to do. Maybe get a spam blocker. I haven't had the need for one yet. But, I bet its the real live human harvesters that got me. Tricky devils.
