Default Font question - not HTML literate!
Let me say it right up front, I know NOTHING about HTML.
I'm using a prefab type web page that you can fiddle with the code to customize. I'm stuck on one aspect that I'm SURE is so simple, but I just don't have the knowledge. One of my business brandings is a fancy V (like in my logo) I want to be able to mention VentureVA in my web site text, but I want to use the Vivaldi font for the first letter(V) in my name and the regular text for the rest of the name.... how do I do that? Any help would be great!

Marcia

Hi Marcia,

The best way to do this is to create an image of the text you want to use. This is because some users may not have the vivaldi font installed on their computer, in which case the default font will be used.

If you want to be sure your visitors see the text exactly the same way across all platforms, creating an image would be the way to go. What is even better for you, you don't have to worry about fiddling with HTML!

A simple image editor/creator that has the font you want to use installed should do it.

I wanted to edit this to add that it may be tricky to size the text image to fit exactly in-line with your other text. So hopefully someone will chime in, perhaps there is a way to do this with code.

Darlene is absolutely right - you'll need to use an image/graphic for the V and then the rest of the text can be in HTML (or you could do the whole thing in an image to make sure spacing is correct, as Darlene mentioned.)

Vanity fonts are not recognizable by browsers, only the basic fonts like Arial, Tahoma, Verdana, etc. are universal to all browsers.

I've heard that Paint.net is a good free graphics program but if you have access to something like Photoshop or Fireworks or similar the quality of your image will be even better.

Good luck with your website!

P.S. - if you do want to use an image for the V and need the code for getting it on the page in a way that makes sense post back and let us know!

Yeah, I found some ways around it, but then it's not "in the text" and searchable. Right now I have my name as "V" with one text insert and "enture" in another test. I just figured if I could do it right, I should!!!!

Tess, you seem to be the SEO godess!! Should I even be worried about the "searchability" of the name in the text?
