I initially designed my site, first in MicrosoftOfficeLive and then with GoDaddy. I was able to write all of the copy for the site, after doing a short free course on Website Design/Search Engine Optimization on About.com.

Last year I decided to upgrade and began working with a Website designer who has been willing to listen to my suggestions and who understands the image I would like to portray through my website. We were able to use most of the old copy that I had written originally, with some editing.

We continue to work together on improving/enhancing the site (the site is still hosted by GoDaddy).

Initially, I tried several different apps from Microsoft Publisher to Bravenet to Yahoo. I never liked what I created. My son is a programmer and owns a hosting site where he has so kindly given me my website, and the price couldn’t be better.

I went to school for programming and have never felt such perfection before, but web design from scratch has scared me. However, it was easier then I thought it would be. This time I got a free design that I like and other than that I’ve done all the work.

My biggest problem has been uploading my site. I would love it if there was an easier way to get from a to z when uploading.

I like being in full control of my site. I enjoy the challenge, and the final results are always so satisfying.

Not surprising, my son, when I run into a problem, gets frustrated with me when I turn to him for help. But that’s what smart kids are for, right? LOL.

my first site is a free hosted site on weebly.
now i am in the process of moving to a paid domain and hosting.
and i am considering both Joomla & Wordpress
still havent decided on either one.
i used to manage a magazine's website built with Joomla and i love it, but had troubles with hackers because of security holes due to poor plugins that the developer used in the site. which is why i am also considering WP as well.

Thanks Shaza,

...for the information regarding Joomla. I've been thinking about WP and Joomla too so that's great information. Thank you!

I created my first site myself using Frontpage but this time around I used a template on iPage. It works well and also allows html so I can add lots of other features to the site.

I created my own using One and One website building pkg. Needed something easy, affordable, reasonable, and professional looking. I've been demonstrating the simplicity of this pkg in my "Website Building for Non-Techies" workshops. It has been well received.

WOW, you gals are all impressive! I was going to go with a drag and drop, easy peasy website, but all the comments about Wordpress made me think twice. If all of you bright ladies can do it, so can I! Soooo, I've just finished installing Wordpress and am about to embark on my learning process. Thanks to all of you for giving me the confidence to do this, and wish me luck

Cheers!

I already answered this poll but at the time I used a ready made template that I adapted. I have just finished a new website that is not live as yet that required a lot of use of code. The reason why it's not live is because there is one piece of code that I can't seem to get to work so I'm waiting for a reply from somebody on their forum and I'm really anxious about it because it has taken me I don't know how many hours over four days to get the English and Spanish versions ready plus manually transferring my blog (not fun!). Hopefully learning about coding and the blood that has stained my keyboard will be worth it once it goes live!!

I created my site by using Intuit. I love how the development of my website was vaguely easy.

I use 1and1.com, the price includes private domain registration, hosting, lots of web templates, a few nice extras not expensive at all and pretty good 24/7 technical support... In the next few weeks I will taking a class at the community college on creating websites via HTML
