Default What is YOUR Best Headset?
I'm looking to get a new headset for transcribing. I don't like the ones that go in your ears (have a few of those). Don't need wireless, although that would be nice. If not wireless, need a fairly long cord. And although it's usually fairly quiet around my workspace, I am out in the open so sometimes outside noise is a factor.

Any ideas? Anything you have used you just love?

Thanks!!

I can't use the ones that go into the ears, either (my ears are freakishly tiny!). Transcription isn't a service I provide, so I'm not sure if a USB headset would work with your equipment, but I do use a headset all the time for calls and video conferencing. I adore my Logitech ClearChat headset. It has padding on the earpads and on the headband, it has volume control on the cord, and it plugs into my USB port. Blocks out almost all background noise, and it's very comfy. Not very expensive, either.

I use a very lightweight headset that has the round pieces that just kind of sit in the ear. I also have a really big headset that is noise canceling. However, those sit on the outside of the ear and when I do a lot of transcription they make my ears sore. I usually just use the lightweight ones. I have a booster for times that the sound needs to be boosted.

I'm a Philips fan. But I know there are so many great head sets on the market. I think it's about finding the right ones for you. Some people work better with certain styles. When you purchase a set, make sure you are able to return it in case it isn't right for you and then try a different brand or style.

Thanks for the input, everyone! I really like the kind that sit on the outside of the ear, like the ones that come with the cassette transcribers. They're lightweight with a little bit of foam covering. But they don't do a very good job of blocking outside noise. The ones I have for digital transcription on the computer are kinda like that but I don't know how much longer they're going to last...have electrical tape on them now...LOL!
