Default How to receive audio files from clients?
I am still in the planning stage of my VA business. I am interested in offering transcription services. How would I receive large audio files from clients?

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

I offer video and audio editing to my clients.. they tend to send me large files. If it is a client that I work with on a continual basis, I setup FTP access so they can upload their files to me via FTP. If it is a one-time project, I ask them to send me the file via YouSendIt

Both instances work out well, I also use either method to send the files back to them (since in my instance, I am sending them back an edited audio or video file).

I have never used it for audio files, however I believe you could use Dropbox for this. It's easy to use and works out great with my clients.

Sendthisfile is another one that I use.

I have started using Dropbox. It was so easy to get started with, and you can begin with a free account. It is super easy to set up for new clients, and it uses a "military grade encryption method that keeps files safe and confidential. (this comes from their Web site, and I love quoting that to clients ).

There are many great secure file transfer tools out there which I will give a try at some point. But for now Dropbox is really working out beautifully for me.

I get most of my audio files through email or YouSendIt. Most of them will send no problem, unless they are too big. I recently had a problem receiving a video file because of its size and we finally made it happen through Skype. It took four hours to download, but it worked.

4 hours to download! Must have been quite large!

I just started using YouSendIt and SendThisFile and they both work quite well.

I use Files Anywhere https://backup.filesanywhere.com/

What I love about it is I can create a link for clients to upload their files too without them having to install any software - as with Dropbox.

I swear by Dropbox -- the files do not "expire" (which they do after five days with YouSendIt). Free, takes no time at all to install; works great.

As far as a transcription software, have you seen "ExpressScribe?" Also free, extremely easy to use - especially if you have a foot pedal.

Good luck!

I use both Dropbox and Evernote with clients. Currently, I've been using Evernote more and more and absolutely love it. I think they both have their advantages ~ really, it's about what you and your client(s) are most comfortable using.
