Default Help! Can't open wav file
I have several files to transcribe for a client and am not able to open them with any of the media players (Windows Media Player, Real Player, Quicktime, etc.). I tried to open them in ExpressScribe also. No luck! Any ideas on conversion or how to open them would be appreciated.

Gina, in ExpressScribe go to Settings > File Types > Files and make sure the .wav check box is checked in the list. You should be able to then open and transcribe the wav file.

HTH!

Hi Jules,

Thanks for your quick response. I'm using Version 5.01 of Express Scribe and the menus only list File, Control, View, Notes, Bookmark, Options, and Help; and can't seem to find a checklist of files under any of those headings. Which Version are you using?

Thanks again,
Gina

Well, shoot. Now it doesn't list the file types. I have a wav file that is in my list of files and it plays it just fine.

Try looking in the Toolbox (on the right side of the screen) and Audio > Convert audio > Convert audio file formats.

I use this free program, DVDVideoSoft, to convert DVD's to AVI so I can play them on Express Scribe. They also have audio conversion in the bundle or separately. So although the WAV file should play you could try converting one of the files to MP3 or something else to see if that helps. I've never used the audio conversation, but the DVD conversion is fantastic.

Hope it works out soon for you; I KNOW how frustrating that can be!!

Thanks, Jules and Pam. Still haven't gotten the files to open. I'm getting an error (0xC00D1197) that says that a codec needs to be installed; however, none of the programs seem to know what the codec is or where to find it. Will look at it again tomorrow. Thanks, again, for your suggestions.
