Exclamation Express Scribe Free Edition - important info
If you rely on Express Scribe Free edition then you need to read this - basically some file types and foot pedal support has been dropped.

Thank you, Bridie, for sharing that info. I recently replaced my Philips foot pedal with another Philips, and things have been working fine so far...

I also use Philips' Speech Exec Transcribe software, which I really like and actually prefer it to ES. I've only been using their free version, but it looks like I'll have to upgrade to a paid version soon since my free version doesn't support certain files.

Great info, Bridie. Thanks so much!

You're welcome

I upgraded to the paid version a few weeks ago (it's not expensive) but I use Start Stop quite a bit too, plus I have Byte Scribe for playing ds2 files (ES doesn't always like them, even the paid version!).

Thanks, Bridie, for passing on this valuable information. I'm sure there are a lot of people who will now need to upgrade.

What if you don't update your free version? Wouldn't it just keep working as long as you don't update it? I could be wrong but it seems it should still work.

Yes Stacey, there's no reason why it won't work but eventually there'll come a time when you'll need to update to get new file types etc. Okay for the meantime though

Thanks, Bridie. Right now I am only using it for one client who uses .dss so I'm not going to update for awhile.

Great idea

It's not too expensive to upgrade to the Pro version when you need to, about $40 I think...

Thanks, Bridie, for the helpful info. I hope the necessity of upgrading can be held off for a long while. I've got to upgrade my accounting app soon!

I just launched my website and I'm going to be offering transcription services. I downloaded Express Scribe and tested it it out by trying to transcribe the 'welcome' dictation. Right now I don't have a food pedal (I'm sure most of you do) but I need to set back the rewind feature to rewind a few seconds, not a few milliseconds! I'm trying to change the speed under Options, Playback. What do you ladies have your Rewind Step (ms) set to??

Also, how do your clients record their transcription? What kind of software/hardware do they use to accomplish that?
