Default Google Wave, The FTC & Volunteering

Episode 40 of A Virtual Perception is here and joining me as a special co-host for this episode is Heather Robinson of Robinson Business Solutions. Heather submitted an entry for the co-host contest I recently ran. I did not get a chance to air Heather’s entry during the last aired episode of A Virtual Perception.

Today’s podcast was recorded in the same format as the live episodes of AVP as a way to test the waters to see how both Heather and I would do during an actual live podcast. The only difference between this show and future live airings is that we did not have any callers phone in.

During the tail end of the podcast, Heather and I discuss the topic of volunteering your services. I want to stress that we are talking about volunteering your services to a local charity or organization in your community, not offering your services free of charge, like for example offering to assist someone for one or two hours of your time just to get your feet wet. You can get your feet wet and still get paid — but that is a totally different topic entirely!

Some other benefits of volunteering that we did not get a chance to mention, but I feel should be mentioned is the overwhelming feeling of satisifaction felt by both the person doing the volunteering and the organization receiving the volunteered help.

Paying it forward, giving back, doing something for the greater good — however way you say it — it all comes down to one simple thing — do it for the right reasons and enjoy every second of it!

Very interesting information on Google Wave. I will have to look more into it when I get my invitation lol.

I have been reading up on the FTC and the new rules and have posted a link to it in another thread.

I agree that no one should give away their services for free. I also agree that volunteering for a program, foundation and or community office is a great way to hone your skills. Great idea on using the contract for services whether you are getting paid or not!

Thank you for sharing this podcast. It was a really great audio to listen to.

I just wanted to say thank you to Darlene for letting me be part of her podcast. I had a blast doing the show and even if I am not chosen as the Co-Hostess, I look forward to teaming up with Darlene again.

And Heather, it was so great chatting with you during this podcast. I had a great time. I think we probably could have talked for hours!
