Default Would you or have you bought a list of lawyers for your province/state?
I am just starting my VA business (my backgroud is in law) and was wondering if it's worthwhile to purchase a list of lawyers for my area? Any ideas?

Wouldn't you be able to find out all the information you need by going to the Law Society website for your province?

Thanks Darrell - I have checked the website out before and in most cases an email address is not provided.....

Hi Jenni,

The Canadian Bar Association puts out a legal directory for both AB and BC. Members in Alberta receive a copy for free. It doesn't look like they offer the same in BC though they do offer online access for their members for free. I have a client's copy of the Alberta list and it does list email addresses. I was not able to located how much they charge for a copy in BC, but to purchase one in Alberta it's $45.00 so not a huge investment and worth it if you're going to use it.

You can see more here: BC Lawyers' Directory

Good luck!

Thank you so much for the link Kate! I managed to order a copy of the BC directory and I should have it within 3 weeks.

Thanks again for the info!
Jenni

I live in Texas and purchased a list of all Texas attorneys through Lawyer411. The list I purchased includes e-mail and street addys, as well as firm specialties and size. I got it in Access format and I can run queries to filter sublists by specialty and firm size.

I am working on my first newsletter and am going to use the list to email the specific attorneys from the list. Right now I'm focusing on solos and small law firms in my area that specialize in commercial and general litigation.

Thanks for posting (HoustonVirtualParalegals)

If you wouldn't mind could you share some of your ideas for your first newsletter?

I am just starting mine and obviously will have my intro and what services I have to offer....and maybe a little tidbit about the industry (as it's fairly new with lawyers in B.C.) ... any new ideas are always welcome!

Jenni

I read a piece of advice when research content for my newsletter, and that was to make it 80% news/articles, 20% about me (my company). Thus, I'm going to write a couple of brief articles. Currently brainstorming topics...but it's always best to stick with what you know best. I'll probably write about ticklers for case management and pointers for using databases to organize large amounts of case information.

I'm also going to scour the internet for interesting stories (maybe with a humorous bent) related to litigation or the law in general. People always enjoy humor.

Makes sense the 80%/20% as you don't want to run on and on about yourself..... thanks for sharing and I wish you the best of luck on your first newsletter.....

Did you check out some of the newsletter builder sites that people have recommended?
