Legal VA vs. Freelance Paralegal

Hi all!

Recently, I've connected with a few Independent P/L's and wondered about the term(s) Freelance/Independent Paralegal.

Does anyone know the difference between a Legal VA and a Freelance/Independent Paralegal? Is there a difference?

Freelance parlalegals usually work for lawyers on a contract basis. Independent Paralegals ususally offer their services directly to the public in the states where it is legal, or tolerated. I do that in my home state of Oregon and also in Arizona where you have to obtain certification from the AZ Supreme Court to offer the service. A "legal VA" would be the same as a freelance paralegal, contracting out to law firms. The term VA is new language for what used to be called "freelancing" pre-internet.
