How do I market to Attorneys?

I want to concentrate on attorneys but the only place they go is to the courthouse. How do I advertise to attorneys where they will see it? I know about Lexis/Nexis and Bar Association directories. They are expensive. I welcome all suggestions.

Our local CITY bar association has a monthly newsletter that offers reasonable rate advertising - $25 will get me a 3-line ad. It is recommended you run any ad for approx 5 months before you will see results.

They also have a monthly breakfast meeting that I can attend (even as a non-attorney) to 'bone up' on the most recent law changes. The fact that I show up gets "do I know you?" and "are you new to the area?" questions that offer me a chance to introduce myself as a VA.

I also have an 'attorney specific' mailing piece to aid in logo/name recognition and I put up post cards at the courthouse cafe bulletin board.

I don't think we have a "city" bar association in Bowie, MD. In what city are you? I have advertised in the county bar association newsletter and that only cost me $35 a month. I never got any response from it but it was several years ago and it might be time to try it again. I don't know if I'm allowed to post in the courthouse but I will find out. Sorry, I misspoke myself. It is a COUNTY bar as well - I live in Boulder, CO so we have attorney members from Boulder, Longmont, Louisville, Lafayette, Superior, Lyons, etc.

Personally, I've found most of my attorney clients via Twitter and their own blogs - posting comments or linking to their blogs on my blog works quite well with time!

Are you concentrating only on local attorneys? You might want to consider national. I work with attorneys from the East Coast to the West Coast and my biggest advertisement is my web site. All of my clients have come from my web site, with the exception of one found on the RFP here.

I am concentrating on local attorneys at first. Then I want to expand nationally. I found another attorney client tonight. I sent her a flyer from a mailing list I ordered. We connected on Twitter and I invited her to a networking group. She was the speaker at our group tonight and mentioned that she wants me to do a mail merge and mailing for her.

Your local Chamber of Commerce monthly mailing would be a good place to put a flier as well. If you want to market locally, definitely get involved with your local chamber.
