Default UniversalClass.com anyone?
Hi, again.

Has anyone ever heard of or taken classes from universalclass.com? They are fairly inexpensive but I have never heard of it before.

Thumbs up Re: UniversalClass.com anyone?
I absolutely love UniversalClass!

I have taken a couple of classes already on there and I found them to be informative and the assignments are made to make you think about your answer. There are real live instructors who administer their classes. I bought the annual membership which allows me to take as many classes throughout the year as I want and I receive an online certificate of completion at the end of every class. They have a great course selection 600+.

I think this site is great if you want to explore other business ideas without putting out a great deal of money only to discover your don't like it.

Also, Virtual Assistant 101 which is one of the classes I am working through at the moment pointed me to this site.

Hi Kirsten

UniversalClass does not certify anyone. It is more for the person who wishes to learn something new without paying an arm and a leg for it. Nothing worse than taking a course only to find out you don't like the subject or it is not what you thought it was. At UniversalClass you can find out if you want to further your education in a particular subject by taking their classes. They do have an accounting & bookkeeping class that I will be taking as a research project to see if it is something that would benefit referring my clients to who do not have bookkeeping experience or knowledge. Traditionally a bookkeeping class would cost you about 500.00; at UniversalClass it is $55 to $60 and if you want a certificate of course completion it is $80 to $85. So for the $179.00 US that I paid for an annual membership which allows me to take as many classes as I want in that time it has already been worth it.

As for certification: I received my certification and the right to use CPB - Certified Professional Bookkeeper at the end of my name through the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada of which I am also a member. Their website is www.ipbc.ca. If you do join please mention that the referral name is Sonni Jones. If you are in the US I believe you can get certified through the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers their website is
www.aipb.org (no affiliation with IPBC). I am also a Certified Simply Consultant. Both have different requirements so check them out. Would love to receive your feed back and good luck. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Chat soon.

Sonni

Hi Sonni,
Thank you so much for all your great information. I would love to talk with you more about the certifications and business. I love bookkeeping and it will be a great asset to me and my clients to go for my certification.

Do you know the difference between AIPB and NACPB? and which is the better of the 2?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. How do you, specifically, get your clients? All online or do you service people in your area as well?

i would love to chat with you further about this
thanks,
Kirsten

Hey all. I am actually taking classes from UniversalClasses. I paid for the year membership and it really is inexpensive considering. I started a couple of classes and decided that they were not for me so I just deleted them from my classes that I was taking and joined other classes. I can take as many classes as I want to within the year membership time frame.

I would highly recommend becoming a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor through Intuit for all bookkeepers looking to work with small business. 90% of all small business use QB as there accounting program. The cost includes the newest version of QBs, the certification test and also a link on their website that people can search on. I have received quite a few clients that found me on the Intuit site.

Also sleeter.com has a wide range of learning materials. They also offer a fantastic conference each year.

Cindy,

I have considered becoming a Certified QB ProAdvisor, I completed the Certified QB User Program in November 2007. I feel my bookkeeping experience is too limited to enable me to get through the ProAdvisor program. Are the study materials helpful even for someone, like myself, how can work their way through QB but is not fluent in accounting?

Universal Accounting spoke with my subcontracting group a few times. It sounds like they really help you start a bookkeeping business from scratch. The gentleman's name was Roger Knecht. I hope to have the audio up on my site soon.
