Great post with some great ideas. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to be offering bookkeeping, but I think I'm leaning toward offering it.

Can you tell me what AIBP is? I tried searching it but didn't get any responses that seem to be relevant.

It is the American Institute of Professional Bookeepers.
You can do a search for that and you will find the website. I get tips sent to me daily that you can sign up for and more. It really is a great site!

You might want to check your local Community College and see if they offer a Professional Bookkeeping Certificate vs obtaining the certificate online...reason why I say this is, that if you chose to educate yourself further (ie Accounting Certificate or obtaining your Associates in Applied Science in Accounting) it would benefit you in the pocket book in the long run. Some of the classes I saw in my local Community College for the Professional Bookkeeping Certification (http://www.lonestar.edu/5692/) are also listed under the Accounting Certificate and the Associate of applied science degree for Accounting. So you wouldn't have to retake those for the other certificates/degrees. Food for thought.

Bless!

I am a member of AIBP as well and have found great tips. I have not taken any of the certification classes, but would like to.

I'm a member of AIPB. Right now I'm re-taking the certification exam. I was certified back in 2002, but accidentally let me certification drop while I was immersed in QuickBooks certifications (and having another baby!). If you have 3+ years of bookkeeping experience under your belt, it should be a piece of cake. You can buy the study books and they're really great study guides, because all the questions for the exams are taken out of these guides. If you read it cover-to-cover and understand what you've read, you're golden!
