Default Quickbooks restore question
My client enters transactions daily in Quickbooks. She has asked me to reconcile her accounts each month. I now have a copy of her data file. Once I make the changes on my computer I can back up and send the backup to her, BUT if she restores from my backup she will lose the transactions that she has entered during the time that I was doing my work.

Is there any way to selectively restore and any other way around this?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Leanne

The only way this can be done is if you and they were working with an accountants copy. If you restore a backup file to the company it will overwrite all the information that she has entered after making the working backup.

The only way around this is to access her files online or via a sharing application.

I handle my bookkeeping client's work in their qb file using logmein. We have a set schedule of when I am accessing it so we don't 'overrun' eachother's work.

Does anyone know if having a QB file in dropbox would work for access? I've been thinking about it but don't know...

Thanks for your responses. I was afraid of that. Initially I thought I would be entering everything, so it wasn't an issue. Now it is. I'm using a Mac so I understand there is no accountant's copy.

Regarding Dropbox--it is not truly secure. I use SendInc to transfer secure files. They are encrypted and require passwords, that even the SendInc people have no access to. I'll probably use that and coordinate my work schedule with my client's. She is not comfortable with logmein.

Thanks again.

I use LogMeIn (previously used GoToMyPc). Another option you have is if they purchase a mutli-user copy of QB's (but you will still have to backup/restore). The whole backup/restore process is very tedious if you are dealing with large files.

Thank you for your replies. After less than a month of backup and restore my client decided that she could live with logmein. This seems the best solution for us.

Thanks for the tip on SendInc. I had no idea that Dropbox was not secure.
