Question Quickbooks Question????
Does it matter what version of Quickbooks I use and what my client uses? Client uses '07 and I have '08 version. Do we need to have the same version in order for me to access her files thru quickbooks? Thanks

Hi Angelica,

Yes, you will need to have '07 to open your client's file. The other option is to have your client upgrade to '08.

The usual rule of thumb with software versions is the higher grade version allows backward mobility. However, an earlier version would require an upgrade. Having said that, I'm not sure if what Christine says is true. But you can enter the question at: http://community.intuit.com/quickbooks.

Hope this helps!

Yes, In my experience the same thing applies here with QuickBooks, QB's will allow you to upgrade the 07 copy to an 08 copy however it will not allow you to go in reverse. So it may become a problem for your client to review the file that you created or updated in 08. Whenever possible, it is best to use the same version.

Hope this helps.

Kim

Kim and Christine are right, Angelica. If you have '08 and your client has '07, then you will only be able to open your client's file by upgrading it to 2008. Once that is done, your client will no longer be able to open that file in 2007.

The only version that would allow an '08 user to work on an '07 file and NOT upgrade it is Premier Accountant Edition 2008. That is the only verison that will let you work on it, but keep it 2007.

To help convince your client to upgrade, you might want to mention to them that the 2007 version will be sunsetted next summer.

Angelica:

QB Online Edition is it's own version. It doesn't "work on" any of the desktop versions. There is a one-time opportunity to convert your desktop version's data to the Online version, but then it's permanently in the Online format.

HTH!

I upgrade every year so I own a copy of all years. This also enables me to service clients who are on different versions. Due to the way they "sunset" payroll, clients are usually forced to upgrade every 3 years.
