Default QB Rookie's question
So as I am shopping around for this QB's program, a quick rookie question or a couple actually. Am I just looking for QB's 2010, or something special that I would need to use it in this compacity? And the question, do I a seperate program for each client? Or can set up multiple clients with the same program?

Use it in what capacity? QB Pro 2010 CAN be used to set up multiple client's accounts.

Here's a link to the different QB products http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product...s-software.jsp

Also, here's the link to download a trial version so you can try it out before you purchase http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/about_quickbooks/trials.jsphttp://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/about_quickbooks/trials.jsp

I have found the place that has the best prices for QuickBooks is www.amazon.com.

Thoughts?

The Quickbooks Accountant 2010 includes the 2010 Pro, Premier, and Industry Editions. I purchased this edition since I want to be able to handle different types of companies in my bookkeeping business. It is designed for accountants and bookkeepers. As a result it has some tools that are not available in other editions.

Hi Marinda, you can have multiple clients with QuickBooks. You just set them up as separate entities so there is no need to purchase several copies. Also, if you want to upgrade, you can either keep the 2010 edition, if you go with that, or you can overwrite it with the 2011 edition, once that comes out and IF you want to purchase it. If you want to keep them all separate, when installing the new program, make sure you pick where the "destination folder" goes so you can have several different years of QuickBooks installed on one computer. Hope this helps!

Marinda ~ You, as the QB advisor/bookkeeper can keep multiple QB files for each of your clients but do your client's need to run the software also? If so, they need a licensed copy also. I 100% agree with Annmarie that you should have the Accountant's Edition ~ you can toggle between different industries/editions in order to work on the same edition as your client. Best of luck & let us know how you're doing
~~Kim

Ok, I think I finally kinda sorta have a better understanding of this QB system. I finally called and asked 100 questions to a QB rep. So now I want to know what you all think. We discussed Remote access, QB Online, and the advantage of being a Proadvisor. So my question to you all, since I'm not officially started yet, what can I really expect a client to want? With Remote access I now understand that it's not me that has QB on my computer. And I now know that with the Online version that I also don't need the QB on my computer as the data is stored on the QB's server. So my question is do I really need to purchase QB's for myself? Are clients gonna want me to retain the data?
Also has anybody become a QB ProAdvisor? The Salesman told me about how on average proadvisor's have gotten 17 leads per year with it, and then the unlimited support. What is your opinion about this?

If you plan on offering QuickBooks services for your clients, I would highly recommend becoming a Certified ProAdvisor ~ having the extra knowledge and completing the training demonstrates to your clients that you are a 'specialist' in your field.
