Default QB Premiem Contractors Edition
I have been using Quickbooks Premier Contractors Edition to assist with my husband's general contracting business.

I would like to offer bookkeeping services to my clients - most of whom will not be contractors.

Do you know of any problems I may encounter using this specific software for non-contractors?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I prefer to use QuickBooks online version for my clients. The clients pay for it, but they have access to their books any time of day or night. The software is always current. If my computer crashes, all I need is another computer with access to the internet. No records lost to the client.

The only problem you might have is if the client has a different version that you. You can upgrade from QB Pro into Premier but you can't go from Premier to QB Pro unless you have the Accountants version.

I would recommend purchasing Premier Accountants edition when you upgrade because it comes with all the versions including QB Pro and Premier Contractors edition and it is the same price as the Contractors edition.

Thanks, Rebecka. This is exactly what I needed to know. I'm guessing if a client isn't a contractor then they won't have this edition. I guess I need to start budgeting to purchase the Premier Accountants edition you mentioned - interesting that it includes the contractors edition plus others and is the same price as the contractors edition.

Thanks so much for your response.

The upgrade option is just a suggestion. If and when you decide to upgrade, I would order the Accountants version. I access most of my clients via remote therefore I work on whatever version they have. So, I wouldn't spend the money to buy another version until you actually need it.

Good point, Rebecka...thanks for clarifying that for me. Can you tell me what program you use to work remotely? I noticed a few remote access programs mentioned at the forum and wondered what you have used in the past.

I greatly appreciate your suggestions and your responses.

Thanks!

I use logmein's free version for most of my clients and then I use logmein Pro for my personal business. The only difference is that logmein Pro lets you transfer files between computers and print remotely.

I find it easier to use than GoToMyPC, and GTMP doesn't have a free version. In most cases the free version of logmein is sufficient for what I need to do, if its not, then I have the client upgrade.

LogMeIn also has a built-in chat feature, which I'm not sure if GoToMyPC has. This is nice when I see the client is on the computer and I need to ask him a question, like "are you going to be done soon so I can use the computer?". LOL

I don't know about compatibility issues with other Pro versions but..........
I ran a very busy construction business with my Contractor version. I have since sold the construction company but continue to use my Contractor version for other business ventures. There is no problem in using it for non-contractor bookkeeping.
