ICD9/CPT Medical Coding/Billing Help Needed

I am not sure this is the correct thread to ask my question. I used to do medical billing/coding many years ago. In developing my VA business I have been contacted by some psychiatrist and counselors wanting me to do VA work for them including submitting their billing and coding.

My question is what the best way anyone currently doing this work would suggest for me to brush up my skills. I don't want to (and can't afford to) take an online class, etc.

I appreciate any feedback and help so I can better my skills in these areas.

I'm sorry, I don't know anything abut Medical Coding/Billing. I have friends who do that or are trained to do it, the only thing I've heard is that since HIPPA came around there is a lot of new legal stuff. (Assuming you're in the US.) If you haven't been HIPPA trained, you might look for a class on that if you want to offer this service -- it would cost but might be worth the expense if you already have people contacting you about providing this service. I know my local adult education service offers some medical billing classes for a reasonable cost.

I used to do medical billing too, for ambulance services.

Our local community college has a degree program on medical billing, so if you have one in your area it might be worth checking into and see if you can just take one specific class as non-credit.

I would suggest doing a google search for free classes. Of course this will assist you in getting a brush up on the new technologies, techniques, etc. I'm sure you will find a lot to help you in brushing up on your craft.
