Dealing with QB Pro 2009 & 2008

What people fail to understand is that internally, there really isn't many different kinds of QuickBooks. It is all the same, but Intuit hides various features depending on the type/level purchased. So Premier is Pro with more features available. The biggest being reversing JEs, J/Es that actually foot at the bottom, Access to multiple prior bank reconciliations, etc. For example, in Pro, it does save all of your bank recs but you can not see them unless you open the file in a premier version. Crazy. I wish they would just sell QuickBooks without all the schemes at different price points.

Right.. the payroll issue usually forces them to upgrade, so most of my clients are on 07/08/09 and now 10. I have one left on 06 since they do not do payroll.
07/08/09 were almost identical and there was little reason to upgrade anyway.
2010 has come cool new features, but STAY AWAY from the document scanning and linking. They hold your linked documents ONLINE and when you reach 2000 pages they start charging you. So they get you hooked and then you are stuck AND they have your dats. I use Sourcelink. The data stays on your computer and is unlimited.

I have QB 2005, QB 2008, and QB 2009 on my system. I don't think its fair to require a client to match OUR software at THEIR expense so I operate in whichever program they currently use. If you choose to go my route, I think you can pick up older versions of QB fairly cheaply on ebay (assuming you don't already own them).

The one consideration is that QB 2005 WILL NOT support a payroll subscription. Other than that, all three versions are working just fine for me.

I've purchased QB off of eBay in the past and it's a great option. You just want to be sure that you get a copy that has not been previously registered. You want to be able to register it in your name in case you should need support directly from Intuit.

Yes, Intuit has a lot of haters, because of the way they market and charge for their products. They do have the upperhand though, because QB is the go-to software for small businesses.

Lily, I called and I can get a % off if I pay for it with my credit card. If you really want a copy, I can order it and you could reimburse me. The base version is really too basic. I use standard ($229) which is much better and it auto handles the Turbo folder structure. I can sell it for $200 (13% off) I think I have a way to take credit cards without sellling something on my website. (I sell a utility called TBX at tools.asbinc.net) I'd have to figure out how to do it. I really need to figure out how to let clients pay their fees online with a credit card. Maybe set up an item for 'PAY MY BILL" and "sell" it. I'll check with my shopping cart people. Anyway, happy to help if you need me.
