Hello Guys,

I am based in Pakistan. An ACCA Finalist(equivalent to CPA in USA), in the process of starting a VA business here in my country targeting USA local businesses for bookkeeping support.

I would appreciate if you guys can comments on issues I should be aware of especially Legal issues, and others which might help me target my target market well.

By bookkeeping I am referring to basic dad to day bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, Credit card reconciliations, any general ledger work.

I am aware tax requires knowledge of USA tax so that is why I have not made it my area of focus

Lily, I am trying my best to improve my skills. I was working in a company in Pakistan for 2 years they provided services to All American Moving Services in Colorado. I think you might be familiar with them since you also live in CO. They all fall into the United Van Lines Freighting all over USA.
This company was providing Bookkeeping,AR, and AP. After that I have started updating skills on other accounting packages in my free time such as quickbooks and peachtree.

I am still learning but that whats makes it so exciting I guess.

Two things I would do to get you started.

1. Try to get a testimonial from All American Moving Services so that potentials can see that you have worked on books for a US company.

2. Explain what ACCA is and its comparison to a CPA. (Note: Getting your CPA in the US requires a series of 4 test modules as well as a minimum amount of college credits attained before you can even schedule for testing. You must pass all 4 modules to be licensed. Once you get your license then you are required to continue with 30 hours of professional development to keep your license.)

Many US bookkeeping companies want someone with experience. The reason that they do not do their own books is because it is tedious, there are many rules that you need to be knowledgeable about and they are afraid they will make a mistake.

If you can address these issues it may be easier to get your foot in the door.

Also, there is the trust issue (and not just with bookkeeping) for hiring virtual help so addressing that will be helpful too.
