In the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Nick Portokalos says to Toula Portokalos - “Don’t let your past dictate who you are, but let it be part of who you become.” – Dear Abby

There is a great deal of wisdom in this saying. We all have had our ups and downs and have made our mistakes in the past. We shouldn’t let those ups and downs and mistakes dictate who we must be, but rather embrace them and allow them to assist us in making better choices and integrate that into who we allow ourselves to become. Instead of saying to ourselves, “I did this or that” or “this or that happened to me so how I can I possibly do this?” Let’s say to ourselves, “What can I bring from that situation into my life as it is now and learn from it?” or...

It’s a good feeling to be able to call the shots once in a while. There are so many things in this life that we cannot control, even if we really wanted to. For many years I felt so helpless as if I had no control over my own life. Of course, it’s not like I have control over everything now, I mean who does? Isn’t control just an illusion that we tell ourselves to make us feel better- or is it?

I’m not saying that we cannot do things to shape our future; as a matter of fact I’m really saying quite the opposite. We really do have some control over things and the things that we do today will decide what happens tomorrow. The fact is we are given choices each and every day of our lives to make and if we make them well, then we...

Are you Super Mom? I know I’m not. In fact at times I can be downright cranky and irritated. The fact that my laundry is piling up, or the kids left that blasted toy out in the middle of the hallway again and I of course tripped over it in the middle of the night when all the lights where off. Or I have had a long day working on a BIG project and possibly up most of the night the night before because that BIG project had a LOOMING deadline and now it’s time to fix dinner and start the evening routine with the kids and wouldn’t you know it I’m out of milk and… well geeze Louise who’s going to go to the store and pick up milk when dinner is still on the stove and guess what I’m a single mom. Okay, well I do have a teen driver in the house now...

Christmas is almost here and the new year is quickly approaching. I'm pondering... what the new year has in store.

I had a wonderful childhood aside from a few bumps in the road of life I've managed to get through adulthood fairly well. I've had my fair share of aches and pains as well as joys, and now I'm working on a new beginning. I started on this new beginning not so long ago after the loss of my parents.

The father of my children left me about 6 or so years ago, and I had just had our second baby. Our beautiful baby girl was only two months old when he decided he needed more out of life. At that time I was also caring for both my parents and had a c-section and was trying to recover from that. I felt...
