Re: Will you work/subcontract PT or FT?
I was a VA part time for very many years, now full time. I've never sub-contracted and don't think I would ever take on a sub-contractor. If asked for something outside my field I refer it outright.
No disrespect to anyone, but I'm totally anal about quality and would have to have all work coming back to me for proofing before it went to a client. I take on just a few clients which provide enough work to keep me busy but able to maintain the highest level of quality. I know, I'm weird, but that's what 25 years of working in huge law firms ingrains in you, where document quality and stability are the first priority.

Another thought came to mind. Maybe someone can tell me the best forums to visit in order to become a possible candidate for those VAs who are looking for subcontractors.
Thanks Ladies.

That is an excellent question Simone. I'm interested in it too.

Re: Will you work/subcontract PT or FT?
I think I would subcontract if I needed the assistance and I would accept subcontracting assignments as well. But, I would have to get to know the person or company I would be subcontracting with.

For one, this forum in itself really focuses on questions about starting in subcontracting. Within this forum there is also a directory you can sign up as a subcontractor as well. Within my site I also have many resources available for subcontractors.

Re: Will you work/subcontract PT or FT?
e-Indy,
That is great if this person can offer you some steady work. I've been seeking work for quite a bit....alot has happened with me and my business in the last year. If this other VA can use someone else, I would appreciate it if you pass my name on.
Warmly,

Re: Will you work/subcontract PT or FT?
Hello,
I am also considering starting my VA business subcontracting part-time. This way I can learn the ropes as a VA then start my own business with my own clients. All while still working my full-time job. I hoping in 1- 2 years I can be working full-time on my VA business.

Re: Will you work/subcontract PT or FT?
I started "Goddess" part-time 4 years ago while keeping my 9-5 J-O-B. This worked well for me as I had to go on 'hiatus' for a while to get my personal life back under control after moving my father-in-law in with us (he's in his 90s).
It meant working an average of 66 hours/week (40 f-t, 15 billable, 10+ marketing/maintenance), but I had a good p-t client base and could have easily taken Goddess full-time (had circumstances allowed) after only a year in business between my clients, subcontract work, and referrals.
My schedule was/is 7-8:30am/7-10pm M-F & 8-noon Sat working on Goddess, and I use my morning/afternoon/lunch breaks at my J-O-B to answer emails, return phone calls, check the forums, etc.
Working as a subcontractor provided income and experience while initially building my business (and will during the rebuild, as well). This also helped increase confidence in my capabilities and exposed me to different ways of interacting with my clients while performing their work.

I also started out part-time. As my reputation and business grew I was able to schedule my time more efficiently. Now I have several part-time, full-time and drop-ins.

Re: Will you work/subcontract PT or FT?
Since I am already working a part-time job, I would only be able to sub-contract part-time. However, I think that for someone who is new in the business, sub-contracting would be a great way to earn some income and work with more experienced VAs.
