This is a biggy when deciding if you're going to subcontract for another VA. Will you be doing this part-time or full-time so you can let the contractor know when you're available.

You may ask why I chose this topic under getting the mind set of subcontracting. This is a basic question when starting out.

Other's may have another opinion but this is similar to "Don't Quit Your Day Job." Becoming a VA takes time. As the insurance provider for the family it was important to continue to work FT in my outside job. Of course it may be different for others but think twice before you tell your current job good bye. Down the road if you want to go FT it can be changed. That's easier than going the other direction.

I may have the option of working for another VA since she is swamped with work. She said she could probably keep me busy FT, although I don't know what her idea of FT is. I'm not working and outsidet job now so seriously considering this option so I have time to continue to market my VA business. I'll work FT for her until I can get my own clients.

I've chosen parttime so that I can work with my other clients, as well.

Good advise as health insurance premiums are going through the roof.

Great question and I'd like to ad my response. As a VA and a single mother, it would benefit me greatly to work directly for another VA as a subcontractor full-time. I would welcome the opportunity as it would keep me busy and I wouldn't have to worry, too much, about where the work was coming from.

Does that make sense? Would love some feedback.

I think I would do it, but I would do it part-time and use the other portion of time to promote/learn more about how to promote my own business. I am beginning in this arena and I think I'd like the sub-contracting arrangement, not just for work, but to have an anvenue to speak directly to another VA live -- not just through forums.

I hope to be able to subcontract for a VA part-time while I continue to work fulltime. I want to do VA work in the evenings and on weekends.

When I was still in the corporate world, I subcontracted on a part-time basis with another VA. This helped me build the set of tools and skills I would need when I decided to go full-time. I still subcontract with a few VA's on a part-time basis. I chose not to go full-time because that would interfere with my ability to build my own VA business.

Congrats getting to the point of going full-time. May we ask how long you subcontracted before you went FT?
