Default Overflow work and referrals
Hi All,

One of the things I've thought about doing as a newbie is possibly approaching other established VAs about overflow work and referrals.

Have any of you all tried that? How did you go about it? Did you get any results?

Thanks for any feedback!

In theory I think this is a really excellent idea for a new virtual assistant - you'll get the invaluable experience of working with established VAs and get to see the inside workings of a busy practice; but it's not something I've personally done.

You might check our Classifieds section as well as our Job Listings section - members will often post there when they are looking for other VAs to serve as temporary or long term subcontractors.

I think this is a great idea. I'm new and have gotten referrals from other VAs that I've meet and kept in contact with. I think having a back up, especially for services you don't provide, is excellent. Networking is always a good thing.

I like to know the person who is approaching me. If its a cold approach then I'm less likely to do anything about it but I'm also more inclined to post on the classifieds too for subcontractors.

I'd be more likely to sub-contract with a new VA with a familiar face. Thats why networking is important to me.

I am actually thinking of this too...since I can do data entry, research, and other VA task and if a fellow VA has an overflow it is a possibility right?

That's how I started my niche. It's the best thing I've done. It all depends if working for someone else is for you. I'm a team player vs the team coach There are brilliant VAs and it's a wonderful way to learn from them. I created a linkedin group to receive advice on this topic as well.

This is how I got my foot in the door when I transferred from overseas to the US. I also joined a local networking group. As business picks up I have "paid it forward" and hired subcontractors to help me and my business. When you are a newbie you often need to earn your stripes. Subcontracting, networking are excellent ways to build your business.

Good luck!
