Default How do you get picked for a subcontracting interview?
In December, the subcontractors are discussing the interview process. Let's discuss how others have gone about getting chosen to interview. Share your story and if you would have done something different?

I'll go ahead and start. I went through a woman's training course and was automatically put on her subcontracting list. She interviewed to see what expertise I had to fit her clients' needs. One thing I wouldn't do is email people and tell the that if they need assistant you're available. You have to prove yourself to them first.

That is true, it is lovely after you have proven yourself isn't it? I love receiving urgent emails from people I have subcontracted from begging me to help them. That really puts a smile on my face. Often one needs to realise that the continued help of others is good even if the rewards are small because in the long run the rewards should improve.

Of course prior to Christmas is a really busy time and then the slow time follows. Good luck everyone with work prior to Christmas.

I was apart of a trainging program also and I asked the coordinator to pass my name along to anyone she knew that might be interested in my areas of interest. I was able to secure two clients that. Word of mouth~ works every time!

I was on facebook, 'friends' with VA's and almost 600 other people, became friends with one lady who was the managing VA for a firm, she watched my posts and checked me out (basically googled me) before she called me, so having the information out there, easy to find, comes in real handy. She read my blog, checked my website, etc.

When I first started my business, I went to Craigslist and searched for VA's that had ads in the Small Biz section. I emailed a few of them to introduce myself and recieved some great responses. One of them referred me to the VAF site and then hired me as a subcontractor.

WoW! I love all of the great information here ... Such wonderful suggestions.

I guess I really need to get a website going. I have one, but not at all geared towards va work.

Thank you all for sharing.

It's great to hear people saying that they have the same questions. Don't be afraid to put them out here. That's how we become better VAs/Subcontractors.
