Default Communicating Progress of Subcontracting Job
Sometimes a project you receive as a subcontractor can be lengthy. How are you or your contractor having you keep them aware of the progress of the project. Do you communicate it using outlook, project management software, phone, excel spreadsheets etc.,

Or do you not think it's necessary to keep them informed of where you are with a project.

My subs use a software to update the status of a project. Should they run into any unforeseen delays, they will often communicate via Outlook too. I'm a big believer in communication between all parties -- sub, VA team leader and client. Lots of expectations can be managed with timely communication.

Hi Collette,

Oh, most definitely it's necessary to keep them informed. The main VA I subcontract for has implemented an online project management tool that we use and this is working out beautifully (Project Pier). I can check there for projects, and when I finish a project I check it off as completed.

I would say that we communicate almost daily, if not every day, via email - and sometimes several times a day. Then there is Skype's IM, which comes in really handy. We also talk occasionally on the phone.

This VA contractor and I have a very good rapport. Communication is key! And no question is too dumb!

Jules,
Project Pier looks like the type of tool I have been looking for. I've got it downloaded but can't access it in any functional way. It looks like it may take some programming codes to get it started?

Most of the time I just email updates, but I have used BaseCamp in the past.

Jules,

Do you use the regular version (0.8.0.3) or the beta version (0.8.5.0)? There seem to be some warnings with the beta version.
