Default Blog Creation as a subcontracting service
One of the best things about being a VA is you can pick the things you like to do best. If you have a niche when it comes to blog creation you may be in high demand. Either people have the desire to create blogs or they don't. This is a project they may seek to subcontract out.

Become familiar with blog sites such as blogger.com or wordpress.com and see if you'd like this kind of work.

Are there any subcontractors that would like to focus on this service? Or do already?

In the past I have messed around with WordPress a bit, but since deciding to go with this for my new VA site, I have caught the WP/blog "bug!" (My homepage and other pages will be static, but there will be an actual blog page, too - all within WP.) I intend to learn this well and offer it as a service. I just spent $$ on two books to help me along. Even though I knew how to update the header, logo, and make other changes to the php/HTML/CSS, I got too impatient trying to figure out other things I want to do with my site using "trial and error," so off I went to Amazon. I'll learn this if it kills me!

The best book I got on WP was WP for Dummies...
FYI...you can look under Settings to make a static and posting page and determine what is what.....
My whole site is WP...and I offer blogging and custom pages as a service.

Rebecca, one of the books was WP for Dummies!

Yeah, I figured out about the static and posting pages. Yay!

Hey, I have mine set to my URL...what template file do you edit for that? Index.php or page.php? Or neither? That isn't listed under anything to make it static or otherwise like other pages.

Thanks!

RE: Blog Creator

WP blogs are the format for one of client's membership sites and sales sites using the Thesis theme. I have worked so extensively with WP in the last couple of months - and enjoyed it so much - that I am definitely looking at expanding my knowledge to offer WP blog set-up and plug-in/theme installation as a niche service.

My concern is that I do not want to cross over into the realm of, or indirectly promise the expertise of a coder or web designer, because simply, I'm not.

on the off-topic :

Jules - under the Settings>Reading you can set a static page that you have already created within the wp-admin panel(along left hand side, near bottom of panel).

This link may help: http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Reading_SubPanel

ie: Create a welcome page - the ID may be www.domain.com/welcome --- under Settings>Reading, you set the static page: front page - to the Welcome page from the pull-down menu.

Yeah, I have done that, but I want the main home page at www.domain.com to be static and it doesn't give me any choices to do that under the front page dropdown list. All other pages are listed, but the home page. I'll check out the link you provided. I will figure this out!

When I installed mine, I used my actual URL instead of something like www.domain.com/wp. So, my 'home' link is the index.php file. Oy. Such fun and aggravation!

Thanks, Crystal!
