Re: Advice for Virtual Assistants looking to subcontract work from other VAs
Hi All,
I too am just starting out and I never thought about subcontracting for other VA's but it appears that is what most people are doing to get their foot in the door of the VA world. I love the information that has come from this thread. The do's and don'ts are awesome and I will take them and put them in my mind for when I am trying to get work from clients or other VA's. Thanks for everyone who has contributed their knowledge on the concept of subcontracting and getting clients. This is a big help.

Re: Advice for Virtual Assistants looking to subcontract work from other VAs
This information has been very valuable to me as a new Virtual Assistant. I enjoy learning as much as I can from the professionals in this industry. I began my venture by listening to D. Victoria virtual perception pod cast and continue to listen to interactions and information that has introduced me to some wonderful people. Thanks everyone for this great advice.

I don't know if it's frowned upon to repeat what others have said, but I would think also that you want feedback.
What I'm repeating is that this thread is wonderful. Sometimes we get so narrow minded and don't realize the smallest details. As someone who is interested in subbing (I'm still doing my research on this industry and love it), I agree totally with buidling relationships, in all aspects. It's challenging to determine a person's personality through words that are typed on a forum, but to have some interaction is very important.

Is it ok to Sub for more than one VA at a time?

Re: Advice for Virtual Assistants looking to subcontract work from other VAs
This is a wonderful source of information regarding becoming a subcontractor with other VAs. As for me, my skills are diverse, however, my website is geared more towards my specific niche industry because I find that it is my best opportunity to obtain clients that will match the compensation that I seek for my services. Reading the material within this post has led me to reconsider whether or not my marketing strategy is at its best.

Re: Advice for Virtual Assistants looking to subcontract work from other VAs
I agree that it's important to establish relationships on VAF, however, there are only so many hours in a day. Personally, I'm looking for a fellow VA who can provide the services to my clients that I'm not real strong in. That being the case, I would rather speak one on one with a potential VA and see samples of their work.
Emails sometimes don't allow you to get a real feel for the person, because it is human nature to edit "to death" what you write.
I met my husband online, we started with email, but I got a much better feel for the type of person he was when we started chatting because he said what was on his heart and in his head at that very moment instead of trying to "wow" me through an email.
Same premise holds true when trying to find a partner in this business.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I like the idea of interacting through social media and other forums. I did not consider that but building the relationship is most important. Thanks for many great suggestions!

I agree that it is important to get to know your VA before you decide to work with them. We all enjoy what we do and working with some of the people that we meet here is an added bonus.

It depends on the VA you're subbing for. In my case I really only look for VA contractors that allow this.

Re: Advice for Virtual Assistants looking to subcontract work from other VAs
Thanks so much for the advice. I've always had pretty good luck finding other VA's who are strong in areas that I'm not so hot in.
I've pretty much had the relationship where I would consistently sub out work for xyz to be completed by a regular sub, and vice versa, which works nice!

I'm a newbie and I definitely want to start out by working for another VA. I think that would be a great way to get your feet wet and learn so much about the VA business. Thanks for all the great info. I can't wait to get started.

Re: Advice for Virtual Assistants looking to subcontract work from other VAs
I have started preparing to become a VA just a few months ago and it is true that when you realise that this is what you want to do, you can´t wait to start. Also many newbies think that starting a VA business is like starting any other job and they expect someone to teach them and guide them through the process.
Soon they realise that it doesn´t work like that. You have to work really hard to get your business going and you have to prepare many things before starting. And in the process you learn so many things.
I agree with what has been said in this post, and there is so much to learn. I am starting to know which VAs are usually contributing in the forums. This forum is a great place to be, full of information at all levels.
Thanks to all the people who make it happen.

Re: Advice for Virtual Assistants looking to subcontract work from other VAs
Even though I've been in business for 10 years, I've never hired a sub. Even though at times I've wondered if I should but I've stayed away. I've so enjoyed doing everything myself maybe one day I will consider it so the thread above is GREAT and THANK YOU for all the ideas/tips/suggestions/etc.
Good Luck to everyone!
