Advice on finding VA positions where you work for a company.
Hello,
I'm wondering about working for a company or companies as a VA. I just joined this website and have not been able to see much yet, but what I have seen seems to point to "having your own business" and being a VA. What about searching for a job like you would any other job, like on Monster.com, HotJobs.com, etc? Is there any luck with searching that way, and finding good stable VA work that way?
Thank you!! Any advice or sharing of ideas and experiences are welcome!!

You may want to look into the company Virtual Vocations. They research jobs not necessarily your own business.

VAs by definition are business owners. It sounds like you may be looking for 'work at home' opportunities, which would be as an employee or subcontractor.
Try googling work at home jobs and see what comes up. Be aware that there are LOTS of scams out there so go with your gut feelings and DON'T pay membership fees for WAH jobs. Usually, the fees are paid by the employer.

Re: Advice on finding VA positions where you work for a company.
Hi Collette,
Thank you so very much! I just logged onto VirtualVocations and am very impressed. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Some help in landing a job or jobs. And I am so tired of the never-ending searching for a legitimate VA (WAH) job when most everything you see is a scam. So it seems these people have taken all of the uncertainty out of the jobs they list. I only scanned over the 1st page, but will go back to delve more into it soon. Again I want to thank you so much!
Have a Happy and SAFE New Year - to all of you!!

Re: Advice on finding VA positions where you work for a company.
Hi Lily,
Thank you for your thoughts. Actually I guess I'm open to either way of working at home, either through my own business or through working directly for a business. When I started out as a Premium Auditor, working at home, I'd receive my appointment contacts to call, set the appointment, then go to the appointment to do the audit. All from home. So since this was new to me, I went to a tax preparer and told him in the course of the visit, that I really didn't want to be "a company", to which he laughed and told me I already was - a sole-proprietor. So in essence I guess since I still go out to do Audits, which is separate from my Asst. Audit Mgr. job, I am still in that capacity. The one thing I did not do is contact the City for a license - I don't know if I have to but I guess I better look into it.
Anyway thanks again - have a Happy New Year!!

Re: Advice on finding VA positions where you work for a company.
I have worked for 2 different companies as a VA, or telecommunter. This was surely by chance and I was in-house for each company for several years prior to them letting me work from home exclusively. It was a great change and has been instrumental in wanting to open my own service.

Hi Kristina,
I'm glad you've found a couple great jobs that way. I understand how wonderful it is to work at home! You know, please help me, but I am not really sure what "concierge" means in general and/or to the VA world.
Thanks again! Happy New Year!

Read "concierge" as "personal assistant." In the non-VA world, this would include things like picking up laundry, making dinner reservations, researching hotels, etc.

Thank you for the explaination, Lily! That is exactly what I meant by it, but to also include face to face services for locals

Re: Advice on finding VA positions where you work for a company.
I have found some VA opportunities on Craigslist, but not much. The best way I believe is to network with another group of VAs, pull your contact resources and go from there!
