Great interview. I am a newbie... still on the fence. It seems to be a lot of work, but you must really enjoy it. This really helps.

Hey Janine,

Great interview! Thanks for sharing with us. I especially liked when you said, "I wanted to be more than just a task-doer; I wanted to be a client’s partner and a springboard for new ideas. I am really a collaborative soul". I completely get that!

From experience, I can definitely say, that you have a positive attitude, good sense of humor and are full of great ideas.

I wish you continued success with your business.

Great interview, wonderful words of inspiration. You have given me the motivation to finally ''get up and go''. It's been too long now that I've been toying with the idea of becoming a VA and reading this interview has made me realise what I have been so afraid of - MARKETING!!! So thank you so much for I now feel completely ready to confront my fear once and for all so that I can turn my dream into reality.

Awesome interview. I also use Logmein to work outside. I live in San Diego so the weather is usually nice and its a great tool for remote connecting when you can't be near your desktop.

Before my shiny 'mug' gets taken off the VAF sidebar to make way for this month's VA interview, I wanted to thank everyone who took the time to read my submission.

I'm glad to have succeeded in leaving a few 'nuggets' that could be helpful to starting and maintaining a business. I tried to say something for everyone at each stage of being a VA.

I thank Tess for making the offer to become part of an elite group of interviewees. I often return to these interviews for a little pick-me-up, advice and for links to resources which have helped me to grow my business.

Thank you all again for stopping by.

Janine

Great interview. I was interested in your business policies and how you handle clients that try to take advantage of your time, and I really liked your "trial basis" answer.

VACareer,

I developed business policies over time and often would add them to my contract as a result of problems which should have been included in my contract in the first place! Trial and error!

For example, I quoted someone rates in May and they took over 30 days to respond back to me. I had actually moved on but when the client contacted me in June, I had raised my rates across the board. All new clients effective June 1st were brought on at the higher rate.

So now when I quote a rate, I say that it is good for 30 days. If I offer a discount on a referral, I indicate, "Good for 30 days".

For that situation, as it turns out, I came here and my fellow VAs advised that I honor the old rate for 3 months which I did.

Hello Janine...like you I depend on a thick Thesaurus by my side instead of having to click at the Roget's online. Some of the things you have shared sounded familiar while the rest of your interview allowed me to look my VA enterprise over.

ps.
