I'm writing a contract for building a website which is an all-inclusive price. I need to add a statement and not sure of wording and am requesting 'your' expertise please.
The statement reads something to the effect of:
Changes/edits/additions to the website as it is being built are included in the price quoted. However, if the client's requests are 'out of the ordinary minor changes/edits/additions'--major changes--other costs may be involved and the Client will be contacted for approval before any additional charges are made.
Anyone?

Hi Terri,
For my website clients my contract states specifically what I will do for them for the price they are paying. I've pasted an example below. As you can see, I make sure they know what is considered "extra" and what it will cost them. I also remind them when they ask for an extra and make sure I get in writing that they want me to proceed and are approving the additional charge.
Quote:
Description of Services

-Installation of Wordpress to current domain
-Transfer/Addition of Client provided content (up to 10 pages- additional pages $$ each)
-Theme customization (ie., colors, images, layout) to match Header design provided by Client (3 design options provided, additional changes are billed hourly @ $$/hr)
-Sales/Landing Page (content supplied by Client- 2 design options provided, additional changes are billed hourly @ $$/hr)
-1 Sign Up form (ie. Newsletters, reports)
-Social Media links/image buttons
-Rss feed subscription set-up(if required)
-Up to 3 specialized widgets/plugins (in addition to the 1 sign up form and the standard plugins we install for everyone)
-Installation of our basic menu of plugins needed for security, SEO, video/audio & analytics.
-Basic instruction on use of Wordpress dashboard and installed widgets/plugins (1 hour- further instruction billed @ $$ per 1/2 hour)
-30 days of free technical support
No...however, I outlined how many business days each step will take. It's a very simple website and my client is in town. I sent off the proposal today. They will be discussing at their board meeting in September and I will let you all know if I got the contract or not.
thanks!

Janine,
I always give a range but I am sure to emphasize that it completely depends on the client getting all materials to me in a timely fashion.
My contract states that the estimated completion date is just that, estimated. That way if they take 3 of the 4 weeks I allotted to get materials to me they understand that it's up to 4 weeks ONCE I HAVE EVERYTHING.
After all my years doing this I've learned to cover my butt. ;-]
