Default Too Trusting for contracts
My husband is a sub contractor doing computer training courses as well as web site design. He is great at what he does however my issue is this:
He refuses to write up any type of contracts or such. I keep telling him he needs contracts and possibly more so he needs policies!!
He trusts everyone, too much. One company often pays him months after he's done the work yet he still refuses to implement late fees.
Also he states for web design that if they don't pay he doesn't give out the login/password info or upload the website until payment is made. I am trying to convince him his time is worth something regardless if the client accepts the finished product.
I want to start a Virtual Assistant business with him however fear I can't if we don't have ourselves covered in this aspect.
Any ideas on how I can get this across to him or does he have to learn the hard way?

What is his reasoning for not wanting to do it? It sounds to me that he is nervous to ask for it. He may not think this is true, but it comes across as his work not being worth it. That he doesn't have confidence in his work.

I'd say just go ahead and handle the contracts yourself - no sense in learning the hard way...
In our own partnership my husband isn't necessarily opposed to contracts and policies but I tend to be the liason between our company and our clients so by default I handle all of these particular aspects.

As long as they're implemented it doesn't matter which of you does it.

I understand how you feel and learned many of my own business lessons (and implemented relative policies) after the fact...having learned many of those lessons the hard way. Some things you just learn as you go - perhaps your husband hasn't been burned enough to take it upon himself to address these issues.

Whatever it is, as the other half of the business - make it part of your job description to ensure your company is covered.
