I agree with you. I read a post asking about this, got to it before I did! What I think most were asking about was a digital stamp. It is different than a digital signature, especially if it does more than what was looked for and may cause confusion.
For those who just scan and make jpegs from handwritten signatures, you may consider importing your jpeg into paint, or something similar, and cleaning up your image thoroughly, including background and inside the letters. Then save as you normally would, creating your signature stamp. Some versions of Adobe have a drop down for creating custom stamps! But my point was that with a general scanned image, all the white space around it is will obscure/ hide anything it touches. So, use the highest resolution for scan and clean up your image to make transparent before you save in Adobe.
