Default Did you use an attorney?
So, I was just wondering... How many of you actually consulted an attorney or had an attorney create your contracts and/or other business forms?

My answer is... I bought a contract template online and edited for my needs. I did not have an attorney review it.

I didn't answer the poll because mine is a little different. I have a background as a paralegal so I used a template from my own collection. So even though I "created my own", it has been reviewed and used by attorneys for whom I've worked.

I found several contracts on line and got some very good ideas from them. I also researched looking at contracts I and others have received for work, services or employment, from this I got a good idea of what I did and didn't want in my contract, so I drafted my own, I didn't have a need for a lawyer to do this. My contract is clear and precise, so I and the client know exactly what is expected of each of us, within the bondaries of current UK legislation.

I used a template of sorts to create my contract. I want to have it reviewed by my attorney but just haven't gotten around to it.

I started with a contract I purchased and modified into a Letter of Engagement. I then had a friend who is a lawyer review it. He wouldn't take money for the work, so I sent him a gift certificate to a good restaurant that I knew he would like.

I'm working on creating my own, with the aid of online samples.

I used a sample, borrowed verbiage from my full time job (a professional services firm), but then luckily my husband is an attorney and reviewed for me.

My story is much like Sally's. I took ideas from contracts I found online, added some of my own and then had a lawyer friend review it. He charged a minamal fee and it was well worth in, IMO. The words didn't change much but the formatting makes it look much more professional.

Same here, took a template, tweaked it then had a school mom friend review it in exchange for extra car pulls. Win-win!
