What is your main "breadwinner" or "moneymaker" in your business?
Hello there,
I hope this is the right category to start this thread in and I hope it hasn't been done already somewhere: I would like to know which niche/task is the most profitable in your VA business?
E.g. I heard that VAs say they earn the biggest chunk doing bookkeeping and financial things for clients as there are many SMEs that need this service desperately.
Is bookkeeping/financial support really the main moneymaker for VAs or can you earn well with other things as well?
I'm not into bookkeeping and would rather avoid offering it, but wonder if I can still grow a fairly nice business with other tasks, such as PA work, marketing, etc.
Thanks a lot to everybody who helps with this.
Kind regards,
Heike
a budding VA/PA

Hi Heike
My most profitable area of work is minute-taking of meetings.

I provide internet marketing services only. No admin. I find a big demand for my services and my business is growing each month.

Bookkeeping is my main money-maker, but that is also the main service I offer. I do other admin projects on occassion, but the books are my main gig.
I wouldn't recommend offering bookkeeping, or any service for that matter, unless it is something you have a lot of experience in. Yes, I do make money with it, but it's because I have the experience required to do so.

Interesting!
You see, I am fluently bilingual written and spoken in both English and French. Now, when I first started my business, this was the last thing I wanted to do.. as I knew very well the amount of time it involves...etc.
Well, 8 months latter, this services has turned out the be the one which is the most in demand, and to be honest.. I love it, and, I am now looking forward to each translation!
So here goes, you just never know!

For us I'd say it's SEO and websites (design/redesign/maintenance) though I do plenty of admin, marketing, and consulting as well and these other services together make up the other 'half' of our income.

Hmm, good question. It would have to be e-newsletters, website maintenance (1sc, Joomla, WordPress, updating content, amember, article submission etc) and complex documents like policy and procedure manuals that need TOC, styles and ... other stuff.

Re: What is your main "breadwinner" or "moneymaker" in your business?
I do a good amount of policy and training manuals, e-newsletters, creating processes to save time/money. I DO NOT EVER touch bookkeeping, not even my own, I leave that to the professionals. I also will not attempt web-design. For the services I do not offer I try to find a local (most of my clients are local) professional to form a relationship with so even if I do not offer a service I am able to offer a referral which in itself is a timesaver for the client and displays good customer service skills.

Wow, thanks everybody. That gives me some hope.
I have been liaising with a local lady who is terrific in bookkeeping and is actually doing my husband's practice's accounts, so I might be able to offer bookkeeping by subcontracting her. That would be awesome and give my VA practice the chance to offer a "one stop shop" for the small business owner.
