Tess's most recent thread which lists a Free Open Source FTP client got me thinking about my favorite Free Open Source applications. Then I thought -- why not start a list in which we can all share our favorites or at least known Free Open Source applications. It would be great to start a list that can ultimately be used as a on Open Source resource for everyone.

So, I will start it off:

Favorites:
Thunderbird open source email client (great alternative to Outlook Express)
Moodle - open source course management system

Known:
Zen Cart - open source shopping cart
Joomla - open source CMS
Horde a variety of free open source programs utilizing mostly PHP

I'm in love with Inkscape and Gimp, and I'm coming around to NVU as well. I got to play around in Linux once and I was impressed, and I just used Audacity for a client tonight and it was easy-peasy.

I am a bit of an Open Source-ophile, so don't mind me, but I've found OS programs to far outstrip their proprietary counterparts. Case in point- Mozilla vs. IE!
