I learned about an interesting website on another forum. Has anyone ever downloaded free software from this site: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com?

You have 24 hours to download the free software of the day. When you download the software, you have to go into the readme file to find the registration information; if you don't, it will remain a trial version. The catch is that you don't have access to support.

The software on the site today is Edraw. It's a Visio clone (flowchart, org chart, etc.).

That's a really interesting site and they seem to have software that is very relevant to our businesses.

I love Visio and luckily managed to get the latest version bundled with my latest MS Office upgrade. I actually use it less now that MS Word has such enhanced functionality within SmartArt.

I am attempting to rationalise the amount of different software packages that I use unless the client requires the use of a specific package. Just to make the process cleaner and more efficient. I am a huge fan of MS Office 2007.

Thanks for the link, I will definetly check it out. You never know when you may need a program and free is usually best.

Todays free software is History Explorer.

History Explorer is a program that lets you overview and access old versions of files. Every time you save a file, History Explorer automatically saves a copy of the old file. This simple functionality means that History Explorer has all the information it needs to let you access old versions of your files. History Explorer looks and works much like Windows Explorer except it’s designed to let you view the history of your files.

Let me download this.

Fair warning with the software the site offers:
If you ever need to transfer things to a new hard drive or, god forbid, have to wipe out and reinstall everything, you can't get the programs back. There is no reinstall allowed.

The site comes in handy when you want to try out a software you probably will never need but are curious about.

The only other thing I'd be concerned about is if their software is buggy - and as you say they don't offer any support - you won't have any recourse but your friendly Geek to fix any problems it may cause because of compatibility, or other issues.

I have this link on my Google homepage so I don't miss any of their offers. I only download probably once a month. There is no technical support and I found it best to read all of the reviews first before downloading. You can see if there will be problems or there are often suggestions of other free options out there. Always remember to read the 'read me' file as it has the registration code, otherwise you are only downloading a trial version most of the time. I have some useful stuff like un-pdf, paint/photo programs, cd catalogue etc. It's fun to keep an eye on what they have. I missed a lot because I didn't realise initially that there was only 24 hours to download and register, so I downloaded but missed out on registering by the time I got to it!

Thanks I will check this out. Most give a ways are trial offers that expire after a certain time frame. But it is a great way to try before you buy!
