Windows 7
I'm curious to know if any Windows Vista users have upgraded to Windows 7 yet and how you like. Do you notice much difference in how it runs or works?
If you haven't upgraded yet are you considering doing so soon?
I haven't done much research on Windows 7 but supposedly it runs a bit quicker and uses less RAM and other resources.

Re: Windows 7
Kimberly,
I have not done my own laptop but did upgrade my husband's as a test and did notice that it runs much quicker. Of course he does not have the programs that I have so that may be why I noticed the difference. I am going to really play with it tomorrow and then have my son install on his which is the same laptop model I have.
Given everything I have on mine I am hesitant even with proper back-ups. I will update you on anything new I find.

Re: Windows 7
I have Windows 7 and I absolutely love it. I have a Mac and dual-boot into Windows, and 7 leaves Vista in its dust! The OS is not as bloated, and a lot of useless or pointless system files have been removed. It runs much smoother and much faster, and I recommend it to all Windows users.
(But I recommend Mac to everyone, LOL!!!)

Re: Windows 7
My client is so done with Vista's she already has a new computer coming her way with Windows 7. When doing her home work she found Windows 7 to be more "accessible", for the blind, and when playing around with it she fell in love. With Vista's it was a work in progress for 1 year, calling them over and over again to make certain capabilities more accessible for the blind. I do not have it yet, but I may get it after it has been out for a while

Re: Windows 7
With my laptop I am eligible for the windows 7 upgrade. I haven't received my copy yet (I assume it comes in the mail). My dad bought a new computer this weekend that has windows 7 but he already has taken it back to the store. It did not accept his programs to reinstall nor his printer driver (or whatever). He just simply got mad packaged the whole thing and took it back.
Now, I am afraid to mess with a good thing. My laptop is doing very well right now and I hate the frustration that may come with an upgrade. Anything I should know or be prepared for should I actually upgrade?

Re: Windows 7
Installed 7 on my work laptop. Love it although it took a couple of hours to install because of all the programs I have. I love that I can pin my fav programs to the taskbar and put it where I want. There are a lot of of things that I like and it does load faster and smoother.
They removed the mail and some other programs but you can get live programs from windows. I use Outlook for client and business and was using Outlook express for personal. Had to go and download Live Mail to replace Express. However, I like this option much better because is breaks out my email accounts and now I can easily see the many personal accounts that I have.
I am truly glad I decided to take the time to install this morning and now I am going to pin, organize and poke around.

Re: Windows 7
Thanks for posting your experiences with Window 7. It sounds like it might be a better option to check out here in the near future.
@Lee, Sounds like it hasn't taken you very long to get used to using Windows 7. I also use Windows Live mail and I like it quite a bit.

Re: Windows 7
Hi there. I just bought a new laptop w/ Windows 7 & really really like it so far. I was running XP - refused to ever use Vista b/c I don't know anyone who liked it, & from what limited experience I did have with it, it seemed to be such a beast to deal with. I loved XP, but my old laptop had been giving me problems, so I just decided to wait until Windows 7 came out to get a new one (man, Best Buy was crrrraaazzzyyy that day! lol). It's totally different from XP, but IDK about how different it is from Vista. I've been using XP for years & haven't had a bit of trouble figuring out how to work in Windows 7 so I'm very happy with it. (I also now use Office 2007 which has been more of a change than the O/S switch! LOL It's totally different from 2003, but I'll get used to it eventually.)
From what I understand, it may not be a good idea to simply upgrade from a Vista machine b/c there will still be components of Vista installed which could complicate things down the road - but I'm not a computer guru, that's just my IT hubby talking. That's why I waited until I could just get a full blown Windows 7 laptop without worrying about any Vista remnants. Again, my experience with W7 has been great... JM2C though.

Re: Windows 7
I run both Window 7 on my office computer and Vista on my laptop. Haven't had a problem with either.
Maybe I just lucked out. I've heard a lot of gripping about Vista, but so far, (knock on HARD wood) I haven't had a problem.

Re: Windows 7
I just purchased a new dell computer with Windows 7. My old HP computer (which had XP lasted 7 years. Actually it still runs, but very slow.
My laptop has Vista.
I can tell you that Windows 7 is super fast and aside from having to obtain updated drivers for a few thing, there have been no problems whatsoever.
I recommend it.

Re: Windows 7
I'm still on XP; refused to go to Vista. My son tried it on his laptop and couldn't stand it (he uninstalled Vista and put XP on). Last year when I bought a new computer, I went with Dell (again) because they offered the option of XP on some of their computers. Have never tired 7.

Re: Windows 7
I just upgraded to Windows 7. It took some getting used to and searching the network doesn't work unless you index the whole thing on your C drive (not practical!) but otherwise it is waaay faster than Vista. I'm working with a Canadian developer to get a search program that will allow me to search the network. I highly recommend Windows 7 for a single computer, though. Office 2007, on the other hand, STINKS! (My opinion only, of course )

Re: Windows 7
I had quite a few things about Vista that I did not like and couldn't get to work. I couldn't wait to upgrade to Windows 7. So far I love it, but I am still trying to figure everything out.

Re: Windows 7
I had Vista on my previous laptop. When I got it, I guess at the time I was resistant to change and set it up to look like XP. I just recently got a new laptop with Windows 7 and I love it. I also loved Office 2007 but installed the beta of Office 2010 on the new laptop and I love that so far.

Can be installed in a PC with only 1GB of RAM on P4 machine and it will run smoothly unlike with Vista that it will crawl to death.
7 is a lot better than Vista.
