Default Vista Home Premium vs. Business vs. Ultimate
I had posted a few days ago about looking into getting a new computer. I have decided to get a new tower and when my VA business gets bigger I will also get a laptop just for my use. Anyway, now I am trying to decide what to get. I currently have Dell and have not had any problems with it. I think I want to get another one unless someone here can convice me otherwise. I am looking for value.

Anyway, I am also trying to figure which version of Vista I should get. What is the difference between Vista Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate? Which one is better and why?

Hi Kellie, while I can't speak to the difference between the programs I can tell you that I'm on Vista Business and LOVE it. It did take some getting used to (as I tend to go kicking and screaming with major software changes ) but it's really pretty seamless when you get right down to it and is a great operating system all the way around.

It can get buggy with Norton Antivirus but we just uninstalled that annoying little bugger right away and all issues disappeared.

I hope that helps a bit!

Also, here's a little comparison chart at Buy.com that might help show some of the main differences.

Tess- What are some of the features that you like with the business edition? Are they only with that edition or are they standard Vista features? Also, if you can't use Norton, what antivirus do you recomend using with Vista?

Thanks for the insight.

I don't know what features are different between the systems so that's a hard one for me to answer...we had a choice between Home and Business with my laptop and chose business and it's great. Maybe check out that comparison table I linked to for more info.

I have Windows Defender, it's free. And once in a while I used Microsoft's malicious software removal tool to double check for viruses (also free) - as long as you don't download random things from the net that should do the trick

I bought a HP laptop with Vista Business last summer. The keyboard has the 10 key, like a regular keyboard. I love it!

I am not sure about the difference with the business edition. I was told that it was safer than the others. It did take a lot of getting used to, but I went through the same thing when I upgraded from 98SE to XP years ago.

Since owning this laptop, I prefer using it rather than a desk top. I also have a Toshiba laptop that has Vista Ultimate. I have learned different ways to "tweek" them both to speed them up, so I am happy with them both and don't see much difference in them.
