Default Video too large to edit - any advice?
Hello,

I was sent a video file which is in my DropBox that is 451 mb...way too large to download into Windows Movie Maker or opensource Virtualdub.org or any other video editing software.

It is an MP4 file that was previously condensed from 1gb to 451 mb using Handbrake.

But the file is still too large for me to work with.

I'd like to ask the client to reduce the video to smaller increments, which is the only solution I can think of but she's not very software savvy. However, I am willing to walk her through the process if there is something that can be done.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks so much!

Janine

Hi Janine,

Are you getting any error messages when you try to open it in Window Movie Maker?

Since you condensed it from 1GB to 451Mb, how does the video resolution look? That seems like a lot to condense.

If you can play it on your computer, maybe you can record the video with a screen capture program like Camtasia?

Otherwise, see if your client can record in smaller segments.

Hope that helps,
Mimi

Janine,

I have Full version of Camtasia, pretty sure it can handle a video that size. If you'd like, I can pull it into that and see if I can condense it further for you.

Thanks, Christina. I'll send you the file. I appreciate it. I don't own the full version of Camtasia (yet!...on my software list) and I've used my free trial already.

Hi Mimi,

It is still in Dropbox because it is too large to download to Windows Movie Maker.

The video is not of great quality having been reduced but it is passable.

I can play it through Dropbox as I mentioned but I haven't tried recording it on screen. That might be an option. Thank you!
