Default Traditional CD to downloadable file
Okay,

I have a client who has made the follow request -

"I want to be able to sell my CD as a dowload soft copy."

Then she referenced a friend of hers who uses CD Baby, but that looks like its for independent music. Are there other options out there for CD conversion? Is this easier than I'm thinking? I'm thinking mp3 maybe, but then the next question is where/how can she regulate when someone can download it (i.e. after they pay). Is that autoresponder? And maybe some best solutions as to where she should have this (i.e. on her website?)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

tj

This is similar to a project I'll be completing as well. Here's my intentions - and if I'm wrong, or there's a better/easier way please let me know!

• The CD (or in my case DVD) will be converted via isofterDVD into a .avi file.
• That file can be uploaded onto a server (for my client I think they're going to use Amazon S3
• Create a webpage that has the cd/video/etc embedded into it
• Use a membership site like amember to put your newly created page behind
• Put the product into the shopping cart.

Having it behind a site like amember would regulate people getting the actual file she is selling.

I know the projects are a little different but hopefully it gives you some thoughts and ideas.

Thanks. This is helpful. I'll look into it more closely today.

Have you and your client found a solution/direction to take this in?

I think LuLu.com has a system in place for helping speakers sell their audio files - unless your client wants to sell this directly from her own website, you could convert the data to MP3 [using WinAmp or similar] and then set up any number of methods for sale and download [1SC sounds like a good option via MondayMorn].

Thanks Tess, I will explore this also as she is trying to find a "place" to sell them. She's been thinking about Amazon, so my task today is to find out the fees and procedures associated with that, but I want to give her options. I don't think she wants to do it from her website (although I don't know why).
